Well here I am catching up again.  For the past couple of days I have been teaching quite a few introductory sessions at work.  Its been very enjoyable.   I like this time of year.  Everyone is coming back to school fresh and ready for the semester.  I am having a bit of trouble knowing that I will only be here for about five or six weeks of the semester before it is time for me to take off for my surgery.  So all in all it is pretty exciting.
I am only seven weeks away from my surgery.  I recorded another video last night for my video blog, you can see it at Blake's week seven blog.  It was also fun to go out and take some night time pictures of BC's Parliament buildings.

We went out for Chinese food tonight at our favourite Chinese Restaurant the Halibut House in Saanich.  Sheri does such a good job and she looks out for us.   She was telling us tonight how she is going to develop a bariatric menu for me.  She is ademant that there are lots of bariatric friendly Chinese dishes.  I think I may have to teach her a bit about proteins.  But I am so happy she is going to try.
I am really sore tonight from my walk yesterday.  So I am relaxing a bit.  On the other side of the coin, yesterday Marla and I bought a fireplace insert for our living room fireplace.  I am looking forward to a warmer room this winter.

Summer is almost over

Only one week of summer left and although this is not the official end of summer it has the signs. Next week Greek Fest begins, yesterday the Fringe started, and school is ready to go. I am not taking a UVic course this fall so it will be an interesting break. I do want take a course in the winter session but this time I have other stuff on my mind.
I think I will have enough people for "My Large Friends" to go but it won't be a big group. Interesting discussions happening on the WLS forum - I haven't seen that in a while.
this morning precious and I had a great walk this morning. But the best part of the day was goofing off with Marla.

a scary feeling

I met a fellow today who hand an RNY four years ago. He was really big and lost a whole lot of weight, I am talking hundreds of pounds. I hadn't see him in a while and bumped into him again today. It was a little scary because he had gained back a whole bunch of his weight. I am scared because this could happen to me. I hope to think it wouldn't because I remain active and changed my life style and my eating.

I feel positive about about my surgery and some fears are natural. That sounds like a flakey affirmation. but I will ride with it for now.

Weight is still the same at 303 I sure would like it to be below 30o for the surgery in 55 days.

last week zoomed by

Last week we were in Regina for Marla Mom's funeral. It was a very nice time with lots of family, friends, and a little sadness. We had a good flight to Regina via Kelowna and Edmonton on WestJet. They are not as fun as they used to be. We rented a car from Budget and stayed at the Regina Ramada. It wasn't as bad as the Chateau Regina but not as nice as the RiverRock either. However I would stay there again.
From a weight loss point of view this was my first chance to explain to my mom and sister what the RNY Surgery is and what will happen to me. They were very supportive. So were my friends Bob and Karen. That was a very positive feeling. Marla is very worried about the surgery but she is putting on a brave front for me.
Our flight back was a bit of a mare because our plane got grounded and we had to wait six hours for another flight. But we made it home and all is well.

70 days from today

it is only 10 weeks until my surgery. I was having real issues with my blood sugars over the last couple of weeks. Dr. Miller (Boots) says I can't have my surgery if my blood sugars is over 8.3 Well here I am running with a 9.3 average and it was scaring the hell out of me. So I called his office and his secretary (Roberta) says to send him my list of numbers. After a review he said because most of my numbers were under 9 that I shouldn't worry about it. I am still a little worried. It is amazing how pasta can mess things up.

I took marla out for pasta yesterday to Macaronni Grill. It was okay but they were supposed to bring me a half order and brought a whole one instead. and here I was trying to be cheap.

Spend a very nice afternoon with Marla. Most of the details now have been set for the Regina trip.

A salute to Marla's mom

Marla's mom passed away today. Good Bye Lois. She was a truly wonderful lady who was abrupt, straight to the point, funny, sometimes odd, always brave, and a wonderful human. She was Marla's mom and that is good enough for me. She travelled with us on many adventures, and sometimes stayed just a little too long. She was there for Marla and there for me. My memories of her are all fond.

It is the sad part of our life that her mind was taken long before her body. Lois was a physical marvel; she could walk for hours faster than any one I know. I was so impressed how she could take on challenges; roller coasters, foreign airports, and just heading out with Marla and me.
Lois has been taken away from us for so long that her passing is a relief. I hope she is at a place where she can walk, drink beer in the heavenly Legion, and chat away with her dear friends.

Date Night :)

Well this was a really nice weekend. My blood sugars are finally heading south and coming back to normal. I am hoping that it will all get under control before two weeks from now because I am due for an HA1C test and it must be below 8.3. Only 73 days away and things are doing fine.
Saturday I did the walk solo. It was okay and Precious and I had a good time. Then I went off to the WLS Group meeting. It was a good but small meeting.
It was nice to have the afternoon off with Marla. I got the call to work the in of Micheal Buble but I really wanted to hang out with Marla. So we made a date of it and went to the show. It was a fun show to watch and we had a good time. Marla was a little troubled but all went well. We had great seats with a good view for the show. About half the distance I usually get when I am on a followspot and a little closer than the Head LX spot.
Saturday afternoon and Sunday we traipsed out to watch the dog show. It was a good time and I stopped us from getting too much sun.

I am still paying the price for that silly pizza. I gained 2 pounds according to the Wii. I have to move more. So now here I am at work filling my time at work completing orders and helping people. Last night was a good time at home cleaning up. Not much to say, well yes there is a little bit.
Something interesting that I have been feeling over the last while and that this surgery is a big deal to me, everyone else has a life with troubles, challenges and their own interests. I am responsible for me.

Up early to get into work. I have lots of stuff and only half a day to do it in. Marla and I had to go to Dr. Quartley's for her legs shots. I always like visiting Quartley. She is a very kind and caring doctor. She was a little upset today because her daughter had moved to Hamilton today.
Marla and I then came home via Safeway and I made up some really nice pork chops. For some reason right now I am outrageously hungry.

Marla was off playing bingo tonight so I am taking some time to clean up my desk. And filling in my blog.

workin' by myself

Everybody was on holiday today so I was all by myself which was kinda nice. I slipped out to UVic to pick up my last assignment for my History of Photography course 20/20 for my art and 24/25 for my essay. So over all I was really happy with my course.
In the evening Marla and I just hung out at home. We didn't have any thing happening, I wasn't up to my walk which I should have done, but over all it was just nice to stay home with Marla. We even ordered in Pizza from Pizza Hut. Even with a $12 special it still kinda sucked.

I was very much a happy today, it just felt like a good day. And I am pretty thankful for it.

Monday, August 1, 2011

Well this has been a dandy long weekend. I didn't get the stuff done I wanted to get done but on the other hand I got other stuff done that should have been done a long time ago. I had a nice walk on Saturday, then arranged for my new tattoo. On Sunday Marla and I went down to the inner harbour. Marla found a Belle gown that she absolutely wanted. It was only $265 and she really really wanted it. I thought we would need a bigger house to keep it.

Then I went and got my new tattoo. This was my gift from Marla for turning 55. At least I was braver this time and didn't wait until I was 53 before I got my turning 50 tat. Cody did it at Tattoo Zoo on Wharf Street. I like the job he did.

Marla and I then went an cruised around the Symphony Splash. It was an absolutely beautiful day and we had a great time. Next year maybe we will look at sitting in the reserved section but for the most part I just enjoyed ambling about the crowd. We went home and picked up some chinese food along the way.

It was a pretty good day.
