A long weekend in August

Well my original intention was to do a big clean up about the house this weekend but things don't usually work out the way we expect them too. Sadly we heard that Marla's mom has stopped eating and may pass away soon. Marla has been totally outstanding in how she has been dealing with all of this. She has spoken with everyone involved, lawyers, banks, DVA and funeral homes. I am so impressed with her. She cried a little, me too, and realizes that this is the best for her mom.

I went down and finally got my hair cut. I was very shaggy but I kind of liked it. Marla is getting hers done this afternoon. this morning Chris, Precious and I had a great walk. then tonight, the Roughriders play Calgary. I am looking forward to the game.

a little about me

When it camer to exercise, I was so frustrated years ago that there was no place for large men to go exercise that I formed my own group "Victoria Big Guys". We worked out for 3.5 years at Camosun College's center for sport and exercise and got some excellent training along the way. Last year I moved the group to Saanich and called it "My Large Friends" so that I could get women and support members involved.

I am 5'10" and weigh 304 now. I started at 339 when I first saw Amson. The biggest change for me was the lifestyle stuff. Gone are the pop, treats and loaves of bread. Now it is responsible eating. Jan K got me convinced that food is only fuel. Of course that would be better if I were more mechanically adept.

My goal is to be healthy, but if I had to put a number on it I would like to be about 185. Of course I have this image in my mind of having a photoshopped thin body with six pack abs, but really not having a keg ab would be an improvement.

I too would like to beathe better when I exercise. It is odd there are some things I can do like walk a 10k where I am not so bad and others like walk up two flights of stairs that just exhausts me.

School is over for now

Well I finished my Art History class. I really enjoyed the History of Photography. I was so impressed with everyone's photographs and viewpoints. Susan Hawkins, the instructor, was excellent.

Work was good today, another short day, I only have one more short day left.

Marla and I went out for lunch at J&J Noodle House, our favourite noodle place, and had the usual. I like going to a place where they know us by our order and even order it for us before we get seated.

Boring blog today, just cause I feel good.

Only 84 more days til surgery; it is getting closer quicker.

Another week

Well here it is July 25, five months to Christmas, I am looking forward to it this year. Hmm, a Christmas without chocolate, that will be strange. Yesterday was a pretty good day. More done in the housecleaning line, and a trip to costco for groceries. But the best part was watching the Saskatchewan Roughriders win their first game of the year. It took four tries but they finally won one. And it was against Montreal too. :)

The rest of the night was a nice time with Marla. We had another steakzilla between the two of us. And some dandy mushrooms. I keep forgetting to eat veggies. On the other hand I am not eating potatoes and other starches.

So here it is Monday morning and the sun has disappeared. I could be in trouble because I forgot my coat. We shall see how this plays out.

Its the weekend

Yesterday was a cool day, actually it was pretty nice outside, so I trundled about going for my Allergy shot. I am so happy that the shots actually work. Then I went and presented my photograph to the class. I presented it very thoroughly and felt it went okay but there were no real questions about my work from the class.

In the evening Marla and I went to White Spot for a hamburger. I like to split a Monty Mushroom burger with her. It was a pretty good meal and a nice time.

This morning Chris and I went for a really good walk. Then it was home and up to my plan of house cleaning and homework.

Oh, the Lions got beak by the Ti-Cats in a really good game.

Fianlly Friday

Well we made it to Friday so lets review the last week.
Good Monday - not much happened but that was nice
Fit Tuesday - Lots of walking around UVic then around the Golf Course at Cedar Hill
Weird Wednesday - The weather pearked up and it was getting nice.
Fitter thursday - Lots more walking, great bus connections, and an even better exercise class.
Finally Friday - Allergy shots, my photo presentation for my nearly last HOP369 class, nice day at work and lots of sun. I am 88 days away from my surgery. currently I weight 305.25 lbs. I have a really large girth and that is what bugs me the most.

But over all I feel pretty good.

Yawn

This morning was great. I was Bright eyed and Bushy tailed, caught the bus on time and made my way out to work. I had a great time reviewing our installations for Interurban, had coffee with the guys, lunch with friends and then off to school. But once I got to the university and settled into my class it felt like my blood sugars just bottomed out. I had no energy, couldn't stay awake, although it could have been a film that we were watching. I am not a fan of environmental photography and the work was tiring and by the way I was feeling it was like I shouldn't have been there.

Mid point check in on my Art History

So we have passed the mid-way point of my Art History class and I am doing okay. An A- on my first paper and and A+ on the midterm. but it is more than just the marks, I am enjoying the class. Susan is a good lecturer and brings in a well prepared lecture. She is challenging some times but extremely supportive.

I did a fairly slow walk about the cedar hill golf course. It was a lot shorter than I had previously measured. Before I measured by steps and this time I used GPS. Still it was a good walk. Really windy and precious managed to get herself covered in Cedar Chips.

I feel a bit like my head is filled with Cotton.

now it is time to start counting to my surgery date. The other day I was planning installations for the summer and set up a 10 week installation chart. That will take us to October 7, otherwise known as my last day of work prior to the surgery. So as of today it is 90 Days away.

Walkin in the Rain

So Chris and I were up for our Saturday Walk. It was like walking in a cold shower but with no wind and lots of clothes it felt great. I am still stiff from thursday's workout too. After a visit to the vet in brentwood bay so precious could get her shot. It was a cold rainy most of the day. the dreary attitude matched the way the riders played as hamilton kicked their asses 33 to 3. Ack.

Food was good, work out good, house cleaning happened and I had a bunch of homework to do. that i will do tomorrow.

It wasn't so bad

Well the mid-term felt okay. I won't know until next week how I did but I at least hope I came off like like knew my ass from my elbow. The rest of the night was okay. I came home and made chicken satay with Marla. It was pretty good. Then we went off to the gym for our Thursday work out session. It was nice to see Megan again.

I was amazed to see the lineup for all the Harry Potterites lined up for the first showing of the Deathly Hallows at Midnight. I don't recall ever doing anything like that but then I don't have the patience for line ups. Oops, I just remembered we lined up for about three hours to get $15 airline tickets on Mahalo Airlines. That was kind of cool.

OMG Mid July, Mid Terms, OMG The sky is falling

I can't believe it is already the middle of July. When I was a kid summers lasted forever. Those two precious months between June 30th and September 5th used to drag as slow as the melting snow. My days were filled with horseback riding, playing in the valleys, riding our bikes, exploring creeks, and lazy days in the sun. In someways I had a rather idyllic childhood.

Here it is, July 14, one quarter through the summer. So far I am way behind in my work; today is the mid-term for my Art History course; and time is racing by at light speed. There have been a few pleasant diversions along the way. Marla and I have been enjoying the recap viewings of the Harry Potter series. It is like a huge geek convention but still interesting. There is an old Charlie Brown saying that has Linus speaking "I love mankind; Its people I cannot stand." That should be my motto.

I have been very good at maintaining my diet, exercise and journalling programs. You can find me on myfitnesspal.com or on the WLS pages on facebook. Speaking of facebook, it is my current addiction. I need to slip away from it for a while. Sleeping is good lately but I am finding I need less sleep. I go to bed at midnight and am up at 5:30 or 6. Way too early.

So I close now with the promise to write again soon.
