Ahchoo - its summer

So here it is the first day of summer. Marla and I are laid out with the snuffle, coughs, and horrible sounds. I called into work - well yesterday was a terrible day for snuffles and sneezes - at 7am because I knew that I wasn't going to make it in. So I slept until about 10:30am then I had to get up because I was just getting too stiff. I went through the day getting hot and cold with fever and cold spells. It is very confusing.
I went in for my appointment with Dr. Miller. He is a nice guy and this time he had a 3rd year med student with him. We talked about my surgery, he thought I would get six weeks notice and not six months. Really it is only four months.
I have a job to do and that is to drop my current 8.1 blood sugars down to 7s. My HA1C measures my blood over three months. So I get a couple of months to work down my blood sugars. My next test will be about August 19th. So that's where the proof will come.

Today is father's day

Today is fathers day and I was thinking of the Fathers in my life:
My dad - father who made me.
An assortment of possibles - each guy my mom dated could be a dad - ew.
My theater dads - the men of the theater at Gateway who taught me and nurtured me to appreciate and respect the arts
Bob - my first step father who taught me there is always growth
Walter - my second step father to taught me to respect the past but also to leave it behind you.
And all the other dad's - priests, teachers and friends.

Thanks,

I gotta date

Well it happened. I was at work on Thursday morning and Ailsa called me. She has a surgery date for me. It is October 19 at 6:45am. I can handle the getting up early. I am so excited and looking forward to the next 124 days. that's my waiting adventure for my weighty adventure. So if anyone is following this is my first blog about being in the WLS process.

Bumbling about Banff

We got into Banff fairly early and had lots of time to go up to the Hot Springs and have a Linksoak. It was us and a whole bunch of Korean ladies. We had a very nice time in the rain. Marla and I went shopping. Some of our favourite places were the Welch's candy store, the Trail rider western store and all the junky little tourist traps. We found me a bobblehead beaver and Marla got some Montana Silverworks cowboy boot slippers (they are really cute). We stayed at the Banff Park Lodge. It was nice enough, nothing really flashy. But the real highlight of the night was have supper at the Grizzly House Fondue Restaurant. Yum.

The next day we were on the road again for a short drive through the mountains. Unfortunately we had to zoom past Lake Louise; it was raining so it wouldn't be that good anyhow. But we did make a stop at Emerald Lake in Field. Then it was on again. After lunch at the Husky station in Golden, I like Husky Stations, we drove on to Revelstoke and the 3 Valley Gap Resort and Ghost town. It is a cool place and one of our favourite places to stay. The restaurant really sucks though, good thing we weren't hungry.

Of on the road and down to Richmond. We made a quick stop in Merritt to split a burger and shake at Triple-O's. It should have been much better. The rest of the trip was back to Richmond and our favourite hotel the River Rock. It was time for the Summer Night market so we went off for food and junk. Note this was not Junk Food.

Catching up yet again

Okay so as usual I got distracted and haven't blogged for a long time. So here is what happened. When we left Moose Jaw we took off for Regina. We checked into the Chateau Victoria which was kind of ew. I wrote a review of it at on Tripadvisor. I had a great visit with Mom, Charlene and Danny. Marla and I dropped in to visit her mom. I was so awesomely proud of Marla. She did a great job at doing what she had to do.
We made stops at the Rider store at Taylor Field and Northgate Mall. Cool to get a bunch of Roughrider stuff. It was mostly a family trip so lots of visits.
Then we moved along, we drove to Medicine Hat, with a compulsory stop in Swift Current for a Dairy Queen Blizzard. We stayed at the Medicine Hat Casino and Convention center and was a nice place. I still get a little freaked when I see lots of little kids in the pool - so we avoided that part. The true fun part of the night was that Marla and I went over to see Pirates Of The Caribbean 4. It was in 3d and pretty cool.
The next day we drove to Calgary and Banff.
