Busy, busy day for a Monday

Well this was a busy Monday. Most of my day was spent in editing and I did a rather good job of completing a video on retirement. Only two things distracted me from my duties. First was a case of numb bum. Sitting at my desk, working on the computer hour after hour demands that every now and then I should get up, go stretch and basically move around. The other was responding to a first aid call over in daycare. Such a busy time.

In the evening Marla and I were going to go to Langham Court and audition for a reader's theatre play. But unfortunately it was cancelled. So we went to see 'The Artist" Marla disliked it and I quite enjoyed it. We don't have to agree on everything.

a wonderful weekend at home

I really needed this weekend. I didn't have much planned for a change so it was nice. But one thing I need to be a bit better at is rolling with the changes as they happen. I enjoy my Saturday but we also had to take Precious in for her shot. She has been acting a little odd lately so a shot is important for her. So I had to miss my walk because the only time the vet could see us was early. Marla and I had a nice drive out to Brentwood Bay with Precious in the back of the truck. All went well with her shot and Marla and I cocooned for all day Saturday. It was a nice day and since it was the beginning of Baseball Season we watched the Rookie and Field of Dreams. I like baseball movies. So it was a really nice night.

Sunday I was up bright and early. Marla says that she likes my ability to fall asleep as soon as my head heads the pillow. But my head chatter starts early in the morning so sleeping in is no fun for me. So I was up early doing some chores and getting ready for my run. Precious and I did the TC10K route again. It was a beautiful day for the run and Precious is getting more used to being in these strange places. We did really good we finished five minutes faster than last week.

Marla and I went out for lunch to Kitty's Hideaway which was some of the worst service we have ever experienced. They were really off their game. Then it was a beautiful afternoon to go for a truck ride and Precious had a wonderful time playing ball on Dallas Road. We wrapped up our weekend watching a very corny pirate movie "the Crimson Pirate" with Burt Lancaster.

hanging out in Tofino

In my last post I talked about doing a lot of walking. I think by yesterday afternoon my walking caught up with me. I was just so sore I didn't want to walk any more. I did a two mile hike yesterday but I was wearing boots, since I was on a beach, and those boots weren't made for walking. So I elected to take today off. It was an easy choice since the rain was torrential. Periodically it would stop, but for the most part of the morning the rain came down in sheets. My legs and back appreciated the rest and by the time the afternoon came about the sun came with it. But I have resolved to rest it. Rest is sometimes as important as exercise.

So I am looking out at the waves crashing up on the rocks, resolved to rest and not to snack. Marla is busy doing a puzzle on the table. I really enjoy Tofino.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Well yesterday was my birthday - I made 56. It was a really good day. I started off by checking in with my mom. She told me good stuff that I didn't know or got wrong over the years. I knew I was born at 9 o'clock but I got it wrong. It wasn't nine in the morning but nine at night. And I apparently was in a hurry because she went into labour at 8pm. To make matters even more challenging it was snowing outside.

Marla and I went to Denny's for breakfast. On your birthday its free! And it was actually pretty good. After that we went down to the beach for a walk with the dog. Precious really enjoys her romps along the ocean and I really enjoy the exercise. After our walk we went for a little drive around town. I am shopping for a bicycle and I would like to find just the right bike for me but it has to be a round $100. Against everyone's advice I am going to start cheap and move up if I like it. I still have this image of being a fat guy on a bike. It is amazing what we carry around in our heads. So we finally came home and settled in for the night.

We hunkered down and had a light supper and watched a pair of really bad movies. The new version of The Three Musketeers and Elite Killers were really bad. The first was overproduced and the latter was simply confusing. But all in all, it was a pretty good day and I quite enjoyed myself.

ouch, fitness for the unfit

I haven't been blogging for a bit just because I have been way to busy.  And also I didn't have much to say.  Now that I am six months out from my surgery things have gotten kind of routine.  Eating is no longer an adventure of can I or should I eat this.  I know what is good and what won't work.  I do get led astray every now and then by my silly head that says "Go ahead, try some licorice.  Its not chocolate so it won't be bad for you."  It is awesomely bad for you if you like the good natural licorice.  three little pieces work out to 150 calories and who can just stop at three little pieces.  It is like trying to limit yourself to a 1/3 cup of nuts.  The nuts are good but at 300 calories per 1/3 cup it is a bit much.

On the otherhand I have the continuing issue with clothing.  Everything I have is too big.  Wal-Mart has actually become a good place to go because I can pick up a shirt for $7 or Jeans for $12.  Some clothing items that I am missing is that all my sweatpants are either too big, read that baggy, or too worn out.  Why is it when you don't feel good about your size you won't let you buy yourself good clothes?  Lately I must be feeling really good about myself since I bought me some tight fitting compression pants for walking and jogging.  I look really silly in them but they feel better than baggy sweats.

I have been trying to jog lately.  I don't really jog, I more like 'lumber'.  But still I move quicker than I used to.  I have been getting ready for the Times-Colonist 10K road race at the end of the month.  It is one of the Victoria events that I really look forward to being in.  So I ran the route, all ten 10k, just me and Precious the dog.  She kind of pulled me through the course.  But two hours later we finished and it felt great.  Then two days later I did it again.  And then on Easter Monday I did it once more.  I was exhausted but it still felt wonderful to get all this walking in.  Then on the Tuesday I was too sore to move.  It didn't help because that night I had to work on a Johnny Reid concert.  He wasn't too bad but I ended up working until 2:30am and then had to be at the college to shoot another video at 7:30am.  I was bushed.

There was a news report that if you sleep less than seven hours per night you will gain weight.  I sleep about 5 and a half or six.  So my next plan is to get more sleep.  We shall see how that works out.  That's it for now, the weekend is racing down on us and I am ready for a weekend without extra work.

Yuch - sick on three hour installments

Oh my this is odd. Yesterday I did a diabetic crash when my blood sugars fell to 3.4 which is really low for me. So I recovered from that. I think what may have caused it was I had a lo-calorie day. I really didn't eat all that much and it must have had effected me.

then today, my stomach was really upset after lunch. I had a taco which is a safe food for me, no lettuce just cheese and tomatoe on corn shell with salsa. that is usually good but my stomach really didn't like it and I was crampy, blowing up sick for about four hours.

tomorrow will be better.
