Oh my god we are up early. It is six am and I am up. I will get up Marla shortly as we have to be down at the Princess Theater by 7:15am. Soon we were off on the tender and onto the Island Princess whale watching and snorkeling charter to Molokini. Along the way we saw many whales. Some did wonderful breaches out of the water and splashing down onto their sides repeatedly. We saw many tales waving as they dove down in a Wyland-like picture.
Marla had a few challenges getting into the water. A lot of it had to do with nerves, poor thing she is like a deer in the forest, afraid of everything. So we suited up, Marla had her wet suit and lycra, but still it was a bit chilly. Things got a bit compounded when she threw a flipper – fortunately flippers float.
It was a little rough a Molokini so we really didn't stay in very long. We were off to another location on the other side of Lahanai – it was supposed to be home to a few turtles. We bounced across the strait and had a buffet like dinner along the way. The food was rather good and simple stuff. I think the crew ate more than the passengers but there was still enough for all.
Our excursion ended with a long line up to get onto the tender to come back to the ship. The warm sunshine felt great as we waited. But soon enough we were back on the boat and treated to a delightful balcony showing of three whales splashing about on our port side. They must have been there for over an hour. Marla kept trying to get a nap when things quieted down but then they would pop back up again.
And then we were off for the return trip across the Pacific. Marla and I watched the sunset then had a brief nap. We shopped the stores a bit, there is a rather limited supply of merchandise and most of it has that “where the hell would I use that?” feeling to it. We went to have supper. My favourite waiter is a fellow named CID. He is a Filipino fellow and does a wonderful job at looking after our interests.
We had a very good supper. A lot of seafood for me but the highlight was the Chateaubriand. Absolutely wonderful. We went back to our room and call it a night. It was a long day so we were pretty wiped out by 9:30. Tonight we will lose an hour as we head East. For some reason I never liked heading East – West was always preferable.
